How the best memories are made...

We've been counting down the days till our vacation!  Kev was in need of a break and we were all just ready to get away for a few days.  We were going somewhere new and that is always exciting, too!  Last Saturday we spent the day packing everything up, loading up the SUV and cleaning up the house.  It is always nice to come home to a clean house.  We decide to get up at 2 AM and hit the road.

Sleep doesn't come easy when you need it--people play basketball or snore or have the TV to loud.  So when the alarm went off at 2 AM I was not a happy camper.  The snorer was happy and the basketball player was ready to go bed.  So we are off and this year we have a 3rd person to take a shift driving.  I actually didn't have to drive any on the way to Savannah.  I just sat up front with Bay when he drove and he did a really awesome job in some pretty heavy interstate traffic and rain.

We roll into Savannah, GA around 10 AM and find a parking spot and decide to just walk around see everything.  It was a really cool place.  I loved the trees and spanish moss.

 The Riverfront...

Of course we had to stop at Sweet Carolina Cupcakes!

Next, we head over to Tybee Island, GA.  Just as we were parking the rain set in so we decided to just head over to Hilton Head Island and get checked into our condo.  It had been a long day!  Seven hours on the road and four hours of walking around Savannah and now we have another hour till HHI.

Our condo was amazing!  It had a great size living area with dining area and the kitchen was great.   Our bedroom had a comfortable king size bed and the balcony was huge.  It was very clean, too!

Than there was the beach.  We had a love hate relationship with the beach.  It's a nice beach, but it is not like our Alabama beaches that is for sure.  First off you can't see the beach unless you are at the beach.  It's like you are in a partial wooded area and than boom there's the beach.  Where as in Alabama it's palm trees and white sandy beaches for miles.  So that was different.

Second, when you get to the beach at 10:00 AM there is a ton of sandy beach...

Than as the day goes on the tide comes in and you lose your beach.  So a already crowded beach becomes REALLY crowded!  Plus, if it's your first day at the beach and you don't know this you are suddenly surprised by wave of water if you are laying there half out of it tanning.  So you move back 10-15 feet and thank you are okay.  Only to find out you have to move again in 30-45 minutes.

The beach at 12:00

The beach at 3:00

It was fun to people watch!  Having people so close you didn't feel comfortable talking without being heard though.  It was something new for us to experience.

Our beach fun...

A few highlights from our vacation...

Excited! (we were going home the next morning)

Baily wore his "beard" the whole walk to the restaurant.  He got so many stares, laughs and honks!

Eric decided to join in on the fun!

This place has drove us crazy!  The beaches are over crowded, the tides are crazy, someone stole my flip flops and I literally had to run back to the condo (.4 mile away) on HOT concrete.  Kevin lost his cool a time or two.  The boys didn't like being told where they could and couldn't skim board and swim by the lifeguards.

No really we don't hate Hilton Head!  It just ended up being our "vacation phrase" for the week.  I don't think we will ever go back, but it was a fun week and something new for us.  It's a vacation we won't forget and isn't that how the best memories are made!
